Lead like a Lion
You must understand the effective ways of empowering yourself so that you can empower others ... In the heat of the moment, they will exercise communication, unity, trust, & execution to make the dream a reality.
One of my favorite sayings is “A herd of sheep led by a lion will always conquer a herd of lions led by a sheep.” In other words, a great leader can ignite power in the weak, bring security to the insecure, and bring hope to the hopeless. To me, there's no greater gift on earth than the ability to empower others.
Growing up my father always told me I was born to be a king. But as I got older, I would ask myself what kind of king? What kind of nation? What kind of culture?
I want to be a king that can turn sheep into lions. In order to do that, I must understand the true power of effective leadership and how I can apply it to my tribe.
In the book Business Strategy by Brian Tracy, he mentions how Alexander The Great once arrived in battle with 50,000 soldiers to fight Persia’s King Darius and his army of a million men. Alexander left the battle with 1,247 dead men. Darius, on the other hand, lost 400,000 men. This was considered one of the most disastrous battles in history! Earning Alexander his famous name, “The Great”
When the Greek conquered new land, they established fruitful societies which made the people respect Alexander, while Persia conquered with fear. During the heat of the moment, the Persian army collapsed due to their lack of communication, unity, trust, and execution. These are all qualities good leadership instills.
Let’s think about the movie, Remember the Titans; First multi-racial high school football team ever. The entire community hates them. So much so, that if they lost one game, the commission threatened to disband the team — Even the players hated each other!
But what brought about change? Coach Herman Boone, that’s what!
He forced these young men to play together! To see each other as brothers instead of rivals. He created a family. Game by game the same community that hated them slowly rallied behind them. Without the Titans, who knows what high school football would look like? His impact started from one man, to a few players, to a school, to a neighborhood, to a community. The Titans, first multi-racial football team, ended the season undefeated.
Bad leadership can destroy your community. On the flip side, do you see how good leadership can lead your family to glory even when all the cards are stacked against you? The reason you chose to be entrepreneurs or dream chasers is because you wanted to lead.
You wanted to be the reason your family was financially free. You wanted to make it different for the next generation. The reason your business made a million dollars. In order to do that, you must understand the effective ways of empowering yourself so that you can empower others. So that in the heat of the moment, they will exercise communication, unity, trust, & execution to make the dream a reality.
Here are five ways you can practice your leadership in your daily life. Hopefully this helps create a lion out of either you or a member of your tribe:
- Self-Awareness: Understand your strengths, weaknesses, values, and motivations. This self-knowledge will help you make informed decisions and build authentic relationships.
- Emotional Intelligence: Develop your ability to recognize and manage your own emotions, as well as the emotions of others. Emotional intelligence is crucial for effective communication, conflict resolution, and building trust.
- Empowering Others: Empower your team members by delegating tasks, providing opportunities for growth, and recognizing and rewarding their contributions.
- Establishing a Family: Cultivate strong relationships with your team members, and colleagues. Trust, respect, and empathy are the foundation of effective relationships.
- Adaptability and Resilience: Be adaptable to change and resilient in the face of challenges. Learn from setbacks, embrace new opportunities, and maintain a positive outlook.
Imagine 3 friends walking side by side, and only the one in the middle can see. If he is honorable he will lead the other two in the right direction.
It’s that simple
By making sound decisions, resolving conflicts, and empowering their team members, effective leaders create a culture of continuous improvement.
Ultimately, strong leadership is essential for achieving organizational success and making a positive impact on the world. I'm here to tell you that you are all Kings and Queens!
But what kind of king/queen?
What kind of nation?
And what kind of culture?
