The unhealthy pursuit of external validation has fostered a generation that seeks purpose through people-pleasing, often going out of their way to appease strangers and acting out of character for a boost in social rank. I still believe in leveraging our differences and using our strengths to help one another succeed together. However, I can't pretend not to understand why many people choose the easier route. Curtis, known to his audience as Jivenya, has never shied away from embracing his true self. This authenticity is what gives his music its transparent, vulnerable, and fresh sound. While many artists struggle to express themselves genuinely, Jivenya does so effortlessly, unapologetically living and creating as the purest version of himself.

His taste in music has always been wide-ranging. Even as a classmates, he was always on top of the latest music, as well as songs from artists yet to hit the mainstream. Honestly, he could have gone into any creative industry and flourished. Someone whose creative source truly surpasses any one medium. His first project, "AILYK," was released in early 2025 and completely changed how I saw him. No longer the person I used to hoop and play video games with, but a full-fledged artist with layers and a story to tell.

What shapes his sound today also shaped him when we were younger: a complete surrender to himself and a lack of need for external validation. Influenced by artists such as FKA Twigs, among others who leverage their uniqueness to their advantage, Jivenya continues to push boundaries and raise expectations just by being himself.
