As we approach the 2nd anniversary of our RDI Nights community event, I find myself reflecting on how night one came together. It began from a place of selflessness and a desire to not only highlight the emerging talent that MOCO has to offer but also to take ownership of the platform on which we perform. We have successfully created the sanctuary we envisioned, allowing musicians from all genres and backgrounds to showcase their talents in front of a supportive audience—one that truly represents the community rather than just a single individual. Knowing the effort that went into making that first night possible, it feels incredibly humbling to be preparing for the second anniversary.

DIY, short for Do It Yourself, consequently means "More Risk Than Reward", but we knew that going in. Securing a venue, decorating the space, sourcing food, hiring security, recruiting videographers, contracting a media outlet, drafting contracts, designing flyers, and promoting both online and offline—with zero intention of seeing a return on our investment. A challenge that even established entities often struggle to execute. The trial and error of that groundwork has now allowed Nast himself to document the buildup to November 15th. Pulling the curtain back to let the audience see just how much goes into making sure the night is something to remember.

Throughout our journey, we have received support from various DMV natives who have contributed to our mission. Lil Xelly and Big Flock headlined alongside Nast during the inception of this series. Dieglo created the merchandise available at the first anniversary celebration for Nast B's "Sacrificial Lamb" album, released at the end of 2024. Speak Your Truth has conducted every artist interview at the show and continues to provide coverage for the experience as the press. Although we may have started "alone," we recognized that the wall in our way was there to test our commitment. As we gradually worked to break through it with minimal assistance, more people began to offer their support and help transform the idea we had two years ago into what it is today.

We are celebrating the 2nd anniversary of RDI Nights, headlined by Nast B and No Savage, sponsored by 93.9 KWYS Radio Station, and held at Oasis (Island Pride) in Gaithersburg, Maryland. I'll see you there!
