The RDI Nights' 2nd anniversary was a success! It was another safe and memorable evening, celebrating where we are, where we've come from, and where we're going. However, as I left the venue, I couldn't help but think about the next day. What's on the schedule? Who do I need to call? Who needs me? Keep in mind, it's Sunday!
Before I allowed myself to reflect on what a privilege it is to have been putting on these shows for two whole years, I let my thoughts about the future distract me from the present. Today, I want to highlight the small wins, because without these seemingly insignificant achievements, we can't truly appreciate when we win big. It's during the times our lives really change that nights like this become something we wish we could hold onto forever.
Have you experienced something good recently that you rushed past without fully processing it? You know it had some impact, but you didn't take the time to reflect on and express your true feelings. Let's stop doing that! Every day, we strive for something that may never come. We dream of "better days," envision what that could look like for us, and prepare for "something greater." But, as we've heard countless times, "tomorrow isn't promised." The only time we have is now. Recognize your promotion and that you are employed. Talk about hitting a personal record in the gym. Give thanks for waking up this morning. Appreciate what many take for granted. Nothing in life is perfect, and I would advise anyone to stop striving for perfection. Our goal should be to create memories—nothing more, nothing less. Assuming that tomorrow will be better than today, instead of working to make today better, is a vicious cycle. Concentrate on winning each day, and you'll find the life you desire. When you eventually look up and realize you’ve "made it," you’ll be grateful for recognizing what brought you success.
As everyone else and I mentally recap and physically recover, I want to remind us to slow down, embrace a little chaos, enjoy a drink or two, accept the imbalance that makes nights like this, and accept that all we can do is enjoy the moment while it lasts.
