You can make five different genres and still sound like yourself. An artist's identity doesn't dictate their style of music; it's how they use it that makes it their own. Working with Adonis has shown me how much is possible by bending genres and finding your way around fake walls.
Adonis is a Reggaeton artist who knows the genre inside and out. Typically, sticking to one sound can result in a creative box, but Adonis, even with guidelines attached, consistently challenges the traditional formula of Reggaeton music. His songs, such as "En Otra Vida" with its EDM-like pad or "Diesel" with its Lofi piano, which gives the song a melancholic energy, demonstrate that Adonis's approach to the genre is far from the Four-on-the-floor rhythm we're used to.
Rejecting the ceiling given can make you question whether what you're doing makes sense and the stress of being your toughest critic multiplies when trying something new.
