That freedom sounds ideal until you realize that nobody is coming to remind you to do the work. Without some type of routine, your days can easily become driven by whatever you feel like doing in the moment. Creativity needs freedom, but your career needs consistency. A routine gives your creativity somewhere to live instead of leaving your progress up to your mood. The goal isn’t to turn your artistic life into a rigid 9-to-5, but to create enough structure to make sure the things you say matter actually get done.

This becomes especially important for artists who naturally operate more from inspiration than organization. You may have incredible ideas, but ideas don’t build careers if they stay in your head or get pushed to tomorrow. A routine creates accountability when motivation isn’t there. Maybe Monday is for planning, Tuesday is for writing, Wednesday is for recording, and Friday is for releasing or promoting—but the exact schedule matters less than having one you can follow.

The freedom of an independent career only works when you can manage yourself. You have the ability to choose your hours, your projects, your pace, and even what success looks like, but that freedom comes with responsibility. If you constantly break the commitments you make to yourself, it becomes difficult to build anything sustainable. A routine doesn’t limit your creativity—it protects it from procrastination, distraction, and inconsistency. You don’t need to schedule every minute of your day, but you should know what needs to get done and when you’re going to do it.

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

Upcoming Events

Boss Beez Seminar 8.14

Double M Studios Family Hike 8.15

Jam Session 8.22

Pip & Friends 8.28

Resources

👤 Find Your Audience

Read Jeff Diggs Jr's Audience. eBook and clarify the artist you are and the community you want to build!

Community

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member. They want to know what you care about, what you spend your time doing, and what kind of life you're building beyond the stage. Your music may be what introduces people to you, but your personality, perspective, and lifestyle are often what convince them to stay. That's why creative thinking around income streams isn't a distraction from your music—it's an extension of your artistry.

Instead of asking, "How can I make more money from my music?" try asking, "What problems can I solve because I make music?" or "What experiences can I create because of who I am?" Those questions open doors that streaming royalties never will. Maybe your love for hiking turns into community events that bring people together. Maybe your passion for fitness, fashion, cooking, photography, gaming, or education becomes another way for people to connect with you. Every genuine interest you have has the potential to become a product, service, event, or community that complements your music rather than competes with it. The goal isn't to chase every opportunity—it's to build a business around the things that already make you unique. When your income is supported by multiple expressions of who you are, your music becomes freer because it no longer has to carry the financial weight by itself.

The most impactful artists today don't just release music—they build communities, create experiences, teach, collaborate, and inspire. That's what creates longevity. If your entire career depends on one revenue source, every algorithm change, slow release, or industry shift becomes a crisis. But when your music fuels a broader mission, every song becomes an invitation into something much bigger than itself. Don't limit your creativity to the recording process; apply that same creativity to building a life and business that your music is proud to represent.

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

Resources

👤 Find Your Audience

Read Jeff Diggs Jr's Audience. eBook and clarify the artist you are and the community you want to build!

Community

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member. The music industry is full of situations that will test your emotions. You may receive harsh criticism, lose an opportunity you believed was yours, be overlooked for a performance, or encounter people who simply don't operate with integrity. Your first emotion is real, but it doesn't have to become your first action. Reacting is often driven by pride, fear, or frustration, while responding is guided by intention, wisdom, and self-control. Every decision you make in those moments contributes to your reputation. Long after people forget the situation itself, they'll remember how you handled it.

Relationships are one of the most valuable assets you'll ever have. A single emotional reaction can damage trust that took years to build. Responding doesn't mean allowing people to mistreat you or avoiding difficult conversations. It means taking enough time to understand the situation before deciding how to move forward. Sometimes the strongest response is having the conversation. Sometimes it's setting a boundary. Sometimes it's simply walking away without trying to win the last word.

The industry is smaller than it appears, and people remember professionalism just as much as they remember talent. When you choose to respond instead of react, you communicate confidence because your emotions are no longer controlling your decisions. You begin solving problems instead of creating new ones, and you become someone others feel comfortable trusting with bigger opportunities. Your talent may get you into the room, but your character determines whether you're invited back. In a business built on relationships, emotional maturity isn't a soft skill—it's a competitive advantage.

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

Resources

👤 Find Your Audience

Read Jeff Diggs Jr's Audience. eBook and clarify the artist you are and the community you want to build!

Community

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member. Social media has made it easy to mistake visibility for credibility, leaving many artists taking advice from people who have never built a sustainable career themselves. A true mentor offers more than tips and tricks—they provide perspective, accountability, and context that can only come from experience. They help you recognize opportunities, avoid costly mistakes, and make decisions that serve your long-term career rather than your short-term emotions. Most importantly, they tell you what you need to hear, not just what you want to hear. That kind of honesty can save you years of frustration. The right mentor doesn't walk your path for you, but they make sure you're walking in the right direction.

Every artist will encounter setbacks, difficult decisions, and moments when quitting seems easier than continuing. A reliable mentor has likely experienced many of those same moments and can help you navigate them with confidence instead of panic. They remind you that progress isn't always visible and that careers are built through consistency rather than constant breakthroughs. Their experience allows them to see patterns that newer artists simply haven't lived long enough to recognize. Instead of reacting emotionally to every success or failure, they teach you how to think strategically. That mindset often becomes the difference between artists who last a few years and artists who build careers that span decades.

Finding the right mentor also requires discernment. Not every successful musician is a great teacher, and not every loud voice deserves your trust. Look for people whose careers reflect the kind of life you actually want to build, not just the level of attention you hope to receive. Pay attention to how they treat people, how they handle adversity, and whether their values align with your own. Talent can open doors, but character determines what happens once you're inside. A mentor's influence will shape not only your music, but also your habits, relationships, and decision-making. Choose mentors whose success you admire, whose integrity you respect, and whose guidance helps you become a better artist and a better person.

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

Resources

👤 Find Your Audience

Read Jeff Diggs Jr's Audience. eBook and clarify the artist you are and the community you want to build!

Community

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member. We spend years searching for a system that works, one that lets us enjoy the work, maximize our skills, serve people well, and generate consistent income. Finding that system is a huge accomplishment, but it isn't the finish line. Markets change, audiences evolve, and our own ambitions grow over time. The habits that helped you build momentum won't necessarily be enough to sustain it forever. Success isn't maintained by repeating yesterday's effort—it's maintained by continually refining the systems that created it.

Many self-employed people mistake consistency for stagnation. They find something that works, stop experimenting, stop learning, and eventually stop growing. Soon after, they begin wondering why opportunities have slowed down or why their audience seems less engaged. The truth is that a good system should create space for improvement, not eliminate the need for it. Every week should present an opportunity to make your process a little more efficient, your craft a little sharper, and your customer/audience experience a little stronger.

As artists and entrepreneurs, we should strive to become students of our own systems. Pay attention to what's working but pay even closer attention to what could work better. Stay curious enough to test new ideas and humble enough to admit when your process needs to evolve. As artists, we've entered an era where audiences are just as interested in the person behind the music as they are in the music itself. They want to know what inspires you, what hobbies you enjoy, what challenges you've overcome, and what values you stand for. Those shared interests become the foundation of trust, and trust creates loyalty. Whether it's hiking, photography, gaming, fitness, or cooking, the things that make you human often become the strongest bridges to the people you're trying to reach.

Oversaturation has made music more accessible than ever, but it has also made it more difficult for great songs to stand out. Thousands of artists release music daily, making technical ability and production quality less of a competitive advantage than they once were. What remains impossible to duplicate is your perspective, your experiences, and your personality. Those qualities naturally shape your music, but they also create opportunities for connection that extend beyond your latest release.

The strongest support systems are built around belonging, not transactions. If the only time your audience hears from you is when you're promoting a new song, your relationship will always feel conditional. But when people consistently experience your character, your generosity, and your genuine interest in others, your community begins to take on a life of its own. Your music becomes the soundtrack to a relationship that was built on something much deeper. That's the kind of foundation that survives changing algorithms, shifting trends, and slower release schedules.

In the long run, people rarely stay because of content alone—they stay because of connection. Build a community around what makes you uniquely human, and your music will always have a place to call home.

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

Events

⛰️ Our First Family Hike

Join the Double M community on Saturday, July 11th, for an artists-only hike where we’ll reconnect with ourselves and the reasons we started making music, free from outside-world distractions!

More information on Instagram

Resources

👤 Find Your Audience

Read Jeff Diggs Jr's Audience. eBook and clarify the artist you are and the community you want to build!

Community

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member. The truth is, most moments aren't nearly as permanent as they feel in the moment. Sometimes the best thing you can do is stop overthinking, trust your preparation, and allow yourself to respond naturally. You've spent countless hours learning, practicing, and growing—there comes a point where you have to trust that what you've built will carry you. Confidence isn't knowing exactly how everything will unfold; it's believing you'll figure it out regardless of the outcome.

Not every setback is a sign that you're on the wrong path, and not every delay is something that needs to be fixed immediately. Some of the most impactful things in life happen because plans didn't go according to plan. The missed opportunity introduces you to the right collaborator. The canceled session gives you the rest you didn't realize you needed. The song that doesn't perform well teaches you something your biggest hit never could. When you stop treating every inconvenience like a catastrophe, you begin to appreciate the unpredictability of the journey.

There's a certain freedom that comes from not taking yourself, or life, so seriously. Laugh at your mistakes, embrace the awkward stages, and celebrate the small wins. Your career will be filled with unexpected turns, and many of them will eventually become stories you're grateful to tell. Sometimes the greatest act of faith is simply letting go and enjoying the ride.

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

Resources

👤Find Your Audience

Read Jeff Diggs Jr's Audience. eBook and clarify the artist you are and the community you want to build!

Community

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member. In a culture that encourages us to monetize every talent and turn every passion into a business, it's easy to forget that some things are meant to be enjoyed simply for the sake of enjoying them. When every creative outlet becomes a potential source of income, the pressure to perform can slowly replace the joy of creating. A hobby gives you permission to exist without expectations or deadlines. Ironically, stepping away from music can make you fall in love with it all over again.

Having a hobby outside of your career creates balance and gives your mind a place to rest. It allows you to process emotions and experiences without the pressure of turning them into content or a product. Some of the best songs and most authentic art come from people who have actually lived their lives instead of constantly documenting them. A full life creates better art than an all-consuming career ever could.

The goal isn't to love music less; it's to protect your relationship with it. The artists who sustain their careers are often the ones who know when to step away and refill their creative cup. They understand that rest is productive and that inspiration can't be forced. A hobby teaches the value of doing something simply because it brings you peace. Those lessons eventually find their way back into your music and your creative process. Success as an artist isn't about making every moment profitable; it's about building a life that supports the art you want to make. Sometimes the best thing you can do for your music is to spend a little time forgetting about it.

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

Resources

👤Find Your Audience

Read Jeff Diggs Jr's Audience. eBook and clarify the artist you are and the community you want to build!

Community

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member. Songs flop, deals fall through, people change their minds, and opportunities disappear as quickly as they arrive. On the other side, records catch fire, shows sell out, and doors open that you never expected. The challenge is refusing to let either define who you are. A bad day doesn't make you a bad artist, and a good day doesn't make you invincible.

The music industry might be the perfect example of imbalance. One week you're celebrating a milestone, and the next you're questioning whether any of your hard work matters at all. Gratitude keeps success from becoming arrogance, and resilience keeps disappointment from becoming defeat. An artist who can stay steady through both seasons is far more dangerous than one who only performs when life is going their way.

The truth is, your attitude doesn't just help you survive the difficult days—it determines whether you're prepared for the good ones. Success amplifies who you already are, just as failure reveals what still needs work. If you can stay humble when things go right and hopeful when things go wrong, you'll develop a consistency that trends can't touch. The industry will always be unpredictable, but your response to it doesn't have to be. Every setback is an opportunity to practice patience, and every victory is an opportunity to practice gratitude. In the long run, talent may open the door, but attitude is what keeps you in the room.

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

Resources

👤Find Your Audience

Read Jeff Diggs Jr's Audience. eBook and clarify the artist you are and the community you want to build!

Community

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member. You're the artist, the marketer, the accountant, the manager, and sometimes your own biggest source of encouragement. That level of responsibility can wear on your body, your mind, and your spirit.

Fatigue isn't always a sign that you're doing too much. Sometimes it's a sign that you're doing too much of the wrong thing. Many artists exhaust themselves chasing opportunities, lifestyles, and definitions of success that don't actually belong to them. They say yes to every show, every collaboration, and every trend because they fear missing out, only to realize they've drifted away from the reason they started creating in the first place. Misalignment has a way of draining you faster than hard work ever could. The work that fulfills your purpose can still be difficult, but the work that conflicts with your values will leave you questioning whether any of it is worth it.

The important thing is not to avoid admitting when you’re weak, but to understand what it's trying to teach you. Rest if you need to, reevaluate if you have to, and make adjustments when your life and your goals no longer fit together. There is no shame in slowing down to make sure you're headed in the right direction. The only real danger is convincing yourself that being tired means you should stop altogether.

Every sustainable career has seasons of uncertainty, exhaustion, and recalibration. Learn the difference between needing rest and needing to quit. A lack of energy is temporary, but a clear sense of purpose can carry you through seasons that talent and motivation alone never could.

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

Resources

👤Find Your Audience

Read Jeff Diggs Jr's Audience. eBook and clarify the artist you are and the community you want to build!

Community

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member. When a group comes together around a shared vision, everyone is excited at first. The ideas are fresh, the energy is high, and the possibilities seem endless. But as time passes and the reality of the work sets in, cracks begin to appear. Long nights, financial uncertainty, missed opportunities, and slow progress have a way of exposing everyone's true level of commitment. What started as a shared dream eventually becomes a test of character, patience, and belief.

Conflict is almost inevitable among the people you're building with. Stress amplifies differences in communication, priorities, work ethic, and expectations. You'll discover who can handle adversity and who only functions when things are easy. While these moments can feel discouraging, they serve an important purpose. Friction isn't always a sign that something is broken; often, it's the process of revealing who is aligned with the mission and who is simply attached to the idea of success. Every challenge becomes a filter, separating temporary participants from long-term partners.

The people who make it through those seasons of pressure together earn something more valuable than money. They develop unwavering trust and confidence that cannot be taught. They have seen each other at their best and worst and still chosen to move forward together. When success finally arrives, it is shared with people who understand exactly what it cost to achieve it. The fruits of labor are rewarding, but the relationships forged through struggle often become the greater reward. In the end, the road less traveled doesn't just build businesses, careers, or artistic success—it builds people who are capable of sustaining them.

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

Resources

👤Find Your Audience

Read Jeff Diggs Jr's Audience. eBook and clarify the artist you are and the community you want to build!

Community

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member. Behind every person chasing a dream is usually someone who sacrificed comfort, time, sleep, stability, or personal ambition to make that pursuit possible. For many of us, that person was our mother. Whether it was emotional support, financial help, rides to sessions, or simply creating a safe environment to grow, those sacrifices matter more than we often acknowledge in real time. As creatives, it’s easy to become so consumed by our own vision that we forget the people who helped carry us toward it.

A lot of the courage we credit ourselves for was first modeled or protected by our parents. The ability to take risks, stay patient during uncertainty, and discern who we are often begins with the care, discipline, or love we experienced growing up. Even in situations where parents weren’t perfect, many artists are still fueled by lessons learned through hardship, absence, or survival. Our environments shape how we respond to pressure long before the world ever hears our music. That’s why acknowledging our parents isn’t weakness—it’s awareness. Somebody, somewhere, contributed to the emotional foundation that allows us to keep going when things look rocky.

In an industry obsessed with image and independence, people love the idea of being “self-made” because it sounds powerful, but every opportunity we’re able to pursue often comes from sacrifices we didn’t fully understand at the time. Many parents quietly put their own dreams, rest, or financial stability on hold so their children could have options they never had. The least we can do is acknowledge it with honesty and appreciation while they’re still here to receive it. Success means more when you remember who helped you sustain long enough to reach it.

Happy Mother's Day to everyone, and a special shout-out to my mom for teaching me how to chase my dreams and deal with the challenges of raising a dream chaser!

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

Resources

👤Find Your Audience

Read Jeff Diggs Jr's Audience. eBook and clarify the artist you are and the community you want to build!

Community

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member. Everything can start to feel urgent at the same time, and the haste doesn't just come from the work—it comes from the expectation that you should be able to do it all, right now. That's when you start to get overwhelmed, and even simple tasks begin to feel heavy. Big goals stop being inspiring and start becoming intimidating. Building a sustainable career takes time and effort. You don't achieve it all at once; instead, it grows through small, consistent actions that add up over time.

What changed everything for me was narrowing my focus to one goal and actually breaking it down. Instead of asking, "How do I do all of this?" I started asking, "What's the next step?" That shift sounds simple, but it creates clarity where there used to be chaos. When you reverse engineer a goal, you turn something abstract into something actionable. You give yourself a path instead of pressure. Then all that's left is execution—one step, one decision, one completed task at a time. Progress becomes measurable, and more importantly, repeatable.

Think of it like laying a brick every day. You don't stare at the entire building while you're working—you focus on placing the next brick as well as you can. Over time, those individual bricks turn into something solid, something real, something that can actually support you. DON'T try to sprint! Show up consistently, even when the step feels small or insignificant. If you can commit to that level of patience and discipline, the overwhelm starts to fade. You stop chasing, and you start building.

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

Upcoming Events

🎤Yo Show Place: Open Mic

RSVP for the Yo Show Open Mic, the Apollo of the DMV!

🎤DMS: Spotlight

RSVP for the Double M Studios Artist Spotlight, a night of performance, networking, and community!

🌸RDI Day

Buy your ticket for Nast B's RDI Day festival!

Resources

👤Find Your Audience

Read Jeff Diggs Jr's Audience. eBook and clarify the artist you are and the community you want to build!

Community

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member. Feelings are real, but they are not always reliable indicators of what needs to be done. There will be days when your energy is low, your confidence is off, and your circumstances don’t reflect the vision you have for your life. That doesn’t mean the vision is wrong—it just means the process is working on you. You don’t need to feel inspired to take action; you need to be committed.

It’s easy to romanticize productivity when everything feels right, but real growth shows up on the days when nothing does. Those are the days that test whether your goals are conditional or non-negotiable. When you keep moving forward anyway, you prove to yourself that your circumstances don’t control your direction.

Maintaining an optimistic outlook in the middle of uncertainty isn’t about ignoring reality—it’s about choosing how you relate to it. You can acknowledge that your current position isn’t ideal while still believing in where you’re going. That balance keeps you grounded without becoming discouraged. It allows you to stay open, focused, and patient even when external results are slow to appear. Not every day will feel victorious, and not every step will feel rewarding, but consistency bridges that gap. The goal doesn’t require perfection, it requires persistence.

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

🎥 Subscribe to Our YouTube

⭐️ DMS: SPOTLIGHT

Don't forget to RSVP for the Double M Studios Artist Spotlight, a night of performance, networking, and community!

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member. The music industry is incredibly effective at selling a polished version of success: sold-out shows, viral moments, big checks, and constant visibility. But what you don’t always see is the pressure, the loss of control, the expectations, and the trade-offs that come with it. When you get close enough to observe it in real time, your perspective begins to shift. What once looked like the goal may start to feel like a responsibility you’re not actually aligned with. That kind of exposure isn’t meant to discourage you—it’s meant to reveal reality.

Too many artists, both independent and signed, chase milestones without ever questioning if those milestones match their personal values. It’s easy to adopt someone else’s definition of success when it’s constantly being promoted as the standard. But every artist is operating with a different value system—some prioritize freedom, others prioritize scale, some want privacy, others want visibility. When you measure your life and career against someone else’s system, you create a gap that can never truly be closed. Even if you reach their level, it won’t feel fulfilling because it was never designed for you. That’s where a lot of silent burnout comes from!

Real sustainability comes from defining success after you’ve been exposed to what it actually requires. When you understand the trade-offs, you can make intentional decisions instead of emotional ones. You might still want the same outcomes, or you might pivot entirely—and both are valid. The goal isn’t to avoid success, it’s to choose the version of it that aligns with who you are and how you want to live. Artists who last are the ones who build careers around their values, not just their ambitions. Because in the long run, clarity will always outperform imitation.

— Jeff Diggs, Jr.

🎥 Subscribe to Our YouTube

👐 Join Our Community

Become a Platinum Member.
